Abstract
The huge authority and personal participation of A.N. Bakoulev played a role in the foundation of the Institute of Thoracic Surgery of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and attracting young staff who began to master a new specialty in the areas of lung and cardiac surgery, and later – vascular surgery. The article presents a brief history of the educational activities of Bakoulev Center, as well as the main prerequisites and stages of the development of the structure for the training of highly professional medical staff. In 2017 Bakoulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery became the ʺHead centerʺ in cardiovascular surgery (CVS), including functions: educational activity and methodological support for CVS chairs; main directions of staff policy in CVS determination. As a result, in 2018 there was established Institute for High Qualification Medical Staff Training and Professional Education. Currently the Institute consists of six departments, six chairs, Methodical Accreditation and Simulation Center, has 93 people of the teaching staff, who are training in 11 specialties of residency, 6 specialties of postgraduate studies and in more than 70 programs of additional professional education.
