Abstract
In 2018, the department managed to reduce the level of operating mortality to 2.1%. The majority of patients died a
day or more after surgery, that indicates the non-surgical nature of the trigger factor. One patient who died without
surgery had initially been in critically ill condition. The scientific work was carried out under the complex theme
“Multi-stage surgical correction for complex congenital heart defects in children of the first year of life” launched in
2018, and within a targeted research program “Reconstructive surgery for various forms of pulmonary artery atresia with ventricular septal defect”. The scientific and practical work may be considered relevant to the tasks set for the
department at the beginning of the year.
