Abstract

The article summarizes the results of 20 years of activity of the Museum of Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) of the Bakoulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, the only one in the world collection of artifacts in the field of CVS. The expositions of the Museum of CVS reflect the emergence and development of all areas of CVS in Russia (congenital and acquired heart diseases, rhythm and conduction disorders, coronary disease, diseases of the aorta and its branches, artificial circulation, heart transplantation, etc.). The Museum of CVS presents more than 500 images (photographs of personalities and devices, schemes of operations, etc.), and exhibits more than 3,000 items (surgical instruments, heart valve prostheses, pacemakers, diagnostic and medical equipment, etc.) related to the history of the world and national CVS. Briefly described are picking and stock, thematic and exposition, research, cultural and educational activity, career guidance and medical-preventive work. For 20 years, 5,000 people have visited the Museum of CVS. There were 265 (5.3%) schoolchildren; 553 (11.1%) patients and their relatives; 1947 (38.9%) researchers, physicians, nurses, media representatives and guests of the Center; 2235 (44.7%) students of universities and colleges, residents, graduate students, doctoral students and medics of advanced training courses. Visitors to the Museum of CVS live in 161 cities of Russia and represent 60 countries of the near and far abroad. The Museum, which became the basis for the creation of the Museum Complex of CVS in 2019, cooperates with many scientific, pedagogical and medical institutions, state and departmental museums of the country and makes a feasible contribution to the preservation and strengthening of the cultural and scientific sovereignty of Russia.
