Abstract
Cardiac surgery of congenital heart disease (CHD) in newborns and infants – the most complex and difficult
area of modern cardiac surgery. A.N. Bakoulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery is a leading
clinic in Russia and the largest in Europe, which carried out the largest number of operations for congenital
heart defects.
The center has three departments that treat patients solely infants. The results and the amount of work one
of them – the Emergency Department of Neonatal Surgery (EHN) correspond to the latest requirements
and presented in this publication. The department performs more than 570 operations in the CHD a year.
The logical association with the Surgical Department of Intensive Care Unit Newborns – modern symbiosis,
which aims to improve the effectiveness of the treatment of the most difficult patients. The data of the
annual report presented to the work confirm this.
The publication presents the central adapted for printing the annual report on the scientific and practical
activities of the Department of Emergency Surgery and Intensive Care Unit Newborns and Infants with
Congenital Heart Disease.
