Abstract
The Clinical Diagnostic Department is one of the largest divisions of the Bakoulev National Medical Research
Center for Cardiovascular Surgery. From its foundation to the present time, the permanent head of this Department
is a follower of Academician V.I. Burakovsky, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yu.I. Buziashvili.
The Department has a powerful clinical base and is equipped with a number of unique technologies in the field of
diagnosis and treatment of different categories of patients with coronary artery disease.
The purpose of this publication: to present the results of the medical and scientific work of the clinical diagnostic
department for year 2018.
The Department has traditionally maintained a high volume of medical care for patients with cardiovascular disease
and, despite the unchanged bed fund, the tendency to increase the number of examined and treated patients
remains – 1839 patients in 2018 compared to 1762 and 1741 for 2017 and 2016, respectively. Total hospital mortality
was 0.5%, intra- and postoperative mortality was 0.8%. Mortality in operations with extracorporeal blood circulation
was 1.4%, in interventions without cardiopulmonary bypass – 0.5%. Compared to the previous year, there is
a decrease in hospital mortality in patients undergoing heart and vascular surgery. In 2018, the Clinical and
Diagnostic Department conducted scientific work on three complex topics: 1) the role of the influence of inflammatory
status on the prognosis and results of treatment of cardiovascular diseases; 2) development of optimal algorithms
for diagnosis, surgery and interventional treatment of patients with cardiac profile in combination with extracardial
pathology (oncological and other diseases); 3) development of approaches to individualization of the choice of optimal
treatment strategy (medical, interventional, surgical or their combinations) in different categories of patients
with systolic (ischemic) and diastolic heart failure.
