Abstract
The component of left ventricular (LV) remodeling after a myocardial infarction is an increase in its volume,
which worsens the prognosis of the disease and affects both the contractile function of the heart and hemodynamics
(intracardiac and systemic). Consequently, the current management strategy for LV ischemic dysfunction
was aimed at reversing the remodeling process. In addition to the therapeutic strategy, surgical LV
reconstruction was introduced, the basis of which was LV volume reduction by excluding scar tissue, thereby
restoring physiological volume and shape, improving LV function and clinical status.
Knowledge and study of this issue is one of the most important tasks of modern cardiac surgery and cardiology,
since it allows to modify existing reconstructive techniques for the purpose of maximum correction of
hemodynamics and contractile function of the myocardium, which makes a decisive contribution to the
effectiveness of the treatment. The presented review describes the most relevant views of the professional
community on this issue.
