Abstract
Objective: to assess the results of simultaneous minimally invasive closure of ventricular septal defect and
patent ductus arteriosus.
Material and methods. Between March 2013 and June 2016, twelve patients (7 boys and 5 girls) with ventricular
septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus were operated on in Meshalkin National Medical Research
Center. Surgery was performed through lower ministernotomy and included perventricular closure of ventricular
septal defect and ligation of ductus arteriosus.
Results. No hospital mortality occurred. Mean “skin to skin” time was 77.5±25.8 (40–100) min. Mean
mechanical ventilation time was 5.5±6.2 hours. No patients had rhythm disturbances. There were no residual
shunts in postoperative period. Mean hospital length of stay was 8±2.08 days.
Conclusion. Presented surgical method is safe, easily reproducible and is not limited by weight or age of
patient. No cardiopulmonary bypass, fluoroscopy and dye boluses needed.
