Abstract
The first operations with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were performed in the Thoracic Surgery Institute (Bakoulev Center now) more than 60 years ago. During this time, it has been changed six titles, significantly expanded by a complex of buildings on Rublevskoe Shosse, received the national status, becoming the real head center of cardiac surgery. During the whole period of our famous glory we have performed more than 110 000 open heart surgeries. Performing approximately 5000 CPB cases by the whole spectrum of cardiovascular diseases in children and adults in the latest years, at present we are the absolute leaders in this field of medicine.
