Abstract
The article discusses some of the problems of the modern Russian health care system. Analyzed is the issue of turning
health care into a market segment and the difficulties arising in the relationship between the doctor and the
patient. As one of the criteria for the effectiveness of the system of providing medical care to the population is considered
confidence in the expert knowledge of the doctor. The significance of the social status of the medical worker
in the formation of trust in him is revealed. The problem of self-treatment and the role of drug advertising and the Internet in this issue are considered. The authors attach particular importance in improving the quality of medical
care to patient compliance and the responsible attitude of people to their own health.
The empirical base of work is the research of the “Public Opinion” Foundation, the All-Russian Center for the Study
of Public Opinion, the Analytical Center of Yuri Levada, the World Health Organization, as well as data from the
Federal State Statistics Service.
