Abstract
Cardiac surgery of congenital heart defects (CHD) in newborns and children of the first year of life is the most difficult
and time-consuming area of modern cardiac surgery. Bakoulev National Medical Research Center for
Cardiovascular Surgery is the leading clinic in Russia and the largest in Europe, in which the largest number of operations
for congenital heart defects is performed.
The Center includes three departments that treat patients for newborns and children of the first year. The results and
the amount of work of one of them – the Department of Emergency Neonatal Surgery of children first year of life
with congenital heart defects meet the most modern requirements and is presented in this publication. In the department,
more than 610 operations are performed annually at CHD.
The publication presents an annual report on the scientific and practical activities of the emergency surgery department
and the intensive care unit for intensive care of newborns and children in the first year of life with congenital
heart defects adapted for central printing.
