Abstract
The aim of the study was to compare in-hospital outcomes of single-stage surgical intervention coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and coronary endartectomy (CEA) and staged treatment options (CABG followed by CEA and CEA followed by CABG).
Material and methods. A retrospective study was performed, including 123 patients who underwent surgical treatment (simultaneous or staged) in the period from 2017 to 2021. The majority of patients underwent a one-stage intervention (n=89), the rest had a staged intervention (n=34). In the staged treatment group, 16 patients underwent CEA followed by CABG, and 18 patients underwent CABG followed by CEA. All surgeries were performed in specialized departments of surgical treatment of coronary heart disease and surgical treatment of cerebrovascular disease of the Research Centre A.N. Bakouleva. The maximum period between two stages of surgical treatment was 6 months.
Results. No deaths were recorded in any of the groups. The incidence of perioperative myocardial infarction was quite low. Attention is drawn to the incidence of acute cerebral complications, which was slightly higher in the groups of staged treatment (CS + CEE) and simultaneous intervention compared to the group of preliminary CEE, however, no statistically significant differences were found.
Conclusion. Simultaneous CABG and CEA demonstrate comparable clinical results compared to staged treatment options. The data obtained allow us to conclude that one-stage surgical intervention is an effective and safe method of surgical treatment.
