Abstract
The article presents material on chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), which is one of the forms of pulmonary hypertension. The main cause of the development of CTEPH is pulmonary embolism. It is well known that pulmonary embolism ranks third in the structure of cardiovascular mortality after heart attack and stroke. The basis of the pathogenesis of the development of CTEPH is the process in which organized thrombotic masses cause stenosis or obstruction of the pulmonary artery. This form of pulmonary hypertension is potentially curable with surgery. This article presents the evolution of views from its origins to the present. The most modern diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic methods for treating this disease are presented. Our own experience is briefly presented, as well as a discussion in the light of modern literature.
