Abstract
Reconstructive operations on mitral valve become more and more wide-spread in acquired heart defects surgery. Nowadays a lot of questions about surgical treatment of patients with mitral insufficiency are still not answered. Some authors do not agree on unarguable necessity for mitral valve insufficiency repair in the presence of aortic defect, considering the fact that mitral valve insufficiency is secondary to the underlying disease. On the opposite, some cardiosurgeons prefer more aggressive tactics for treatment of relative mitral valve insufficiency. It is not always justified and can prolong operation duration, thus, exposing patients to unnecessary risk. So, the problem of choice of approach to concomitant mitral insufficiency with underlying aortic defect is quite topical.
