Abstract
The aim of the present study is to study the role of CT and MRI of the brain to determine the indications for surgical treatment
of critical carotid stenosis.
Material and methods. A.N. Bakoulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences
was held 117 (100 %) research CT and MRI of the brain at different stages of the formation of ischemic changes in the
parenchyma. Of them brain CT scan performed in 93 (79.5 %), and MRI and 24 (20.5 %) patients.
Results. From the obtained data revealed that 98 % (83.8 %) patients had changes in the parenchyma of the brain in the stage
of organization. Acute and subacute stage of cerebral ischemia was 19 (16.2 %) cases. CT and MRI research identified
ischemic lesions in different time intervals and at different stages of their transition from the development of necrosis in the
parenchyma to the formation of cysts with fibrous capsule.
Conclusions. Clinical applications of CT and MR angiography studies, as well as various computer programs for processing and
reconstruction of the obtained data allows to be able to select adequate diagnostic and treatment tactics. The use of advanced
hardware and software of modern scanners allows to reliably diagnose almost all types of cerebrovascular disease, determine
the indications for further treatment and monitor the adequacy of the performed manipulations. Analysis of the results of all
methods of examination determines the tactics of surgical treatment in a planned or urgent.
