Abstract
Mitral valve diseases associated with serious complications. Mitral valve reconstruction is superior to mitral valve replacement in terms of operative mortality, preservation of left ventricular function and long-term survival, with fewer valve-related complications. The management of asymptomatic patients with severe MR however remains controversial. Asymptomatic patients with chronic severe mitral regurgitation may develop irreversible left ventricular dysfunction despite a «normal» resting ejection fraction. The etiology of mitral valve diseases has an impact on the complexity and number of repair techniques required to achieve a successful valve repair, mainly because of the difference in burden of lesions encountered. Carpentier's principles of a reconstructive valve operation are: preserve or restore full leaflet motion, create a large surface of coaptation, remodel and stabilize the entire annulus. The objective of our information-analytical review – identification of trends in the surgical treatment of mitral valve insufficiency.
