Abstract
The article presents the main stages of formation and the results of the Department of reconstructive surgery and the aortic root. The Department performs more than 500 operation in a year, including 370 operations with artificial circulation, including about 100 operations on the ascending aorta and arch. The main scientific directions of the Department work is surgical treatment of complicated forms of aortic aneurysms,
development of methodology and implementation of repeated interventions, including the ascending aorta and arch. Of particular interest is the study of the peculiarities of diagnosis and surgical treatment of patients with dilatation lesions of left ventricle caused by acquired defect of the heart valves. Accumulated experience in the use of techniques of artificial circulation in interventions on the aortic arch, brachiocephalic arteries
in acute and chronic aortic bundles. Developed and used in practice methods of performing repeated interventions via lateral thoracotomy without recompressing or layered prosthetic aorta. Widely used methods of influence on the architecture of the left ventricle during correction of valvular heart disease.
