Abstract
Introduction. Primary cardiac tumors in infants consist less than 0.2% from all congenital heart diseases in
primary echocardiographic research. Indications for surgical treatment of cardiac tumors in infants are
determined on the basis of the hemodynamic violations severity.
Material and methods. In the period from 2006 to 2016 in Bakulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular
Surgery were performed 12 operations for cardiac tumors in infants. Patients age varied from 7 days to 1 year,
weight – 2.2–8.2 kg. The first time in national practice were applied the methods of cryo- and radio-frequency
influence on the tumor bed, or its unresected part in order to pevent its further growth.
Results. The operations of tumor resection were performed with cardiopulmonary bypass, cardioplegia and
hypothermia to 28 °C per rectum. In 4 patients tumor was partially removed due expressed intramural
growth. Wherein the remaining part was treated with radio-frequency or cryo influence. Data histological
examination revealed the following tumor types: rhabdomyoma in 6 children, angiofibroma – 2, 1 – fibroma,
1 lipofibrous hamartoma, 1 hamartoma with leiomyoma elements, 1 – fibrosarcoma.
Conclusion. Our ten-year's experience in surgical treatment of cardiac tumors in infants represents a wide
range of topography and morphology of cardiac neoplasms, and also the possibility of their successful
removal with good immediate and long-term results.
