Abstract
Introduction. Social situation of development of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) is characterized by early age changes in the biological flow of activities, contradictory child-parent interaction; changing the design of future parents of children with CHD, changing the role of the child with CHD in family relations, which adversely affects the mental development of the child with CHD. The aim of the study was to study the level of mental development of children with CHD and the role of the emotional state of the mother in the mental functioning of the children of the second year with CHD in the period of surgical treatment.
Material and methods. The study involved 84 dyads: mothers and children with CHD of the second year, subjected to surgical treatment in the Department for surgery in infants with CHD, the average age of the patients was of 14.52+1.50 months. To study the emotional state of mothers we used the following methods: State-Trait Anxiety Inventory - STAI, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale CES-D. To assess the level of mental development of children the second year of life with CHD we used the method of "Diagnostics of mental development" (DNPR) for children of the second year of life (K.L. Pechora).
Results. We have shown that 34.8% of children had developmental delays at 1 epicrisis period; 43.5% of children had developmental delays at 2 epicrisis period. In this case, the predictor “maternal depression” determines such parameters of development as understanding of the speech of the adult, the initiative of the child in communication.
Conclusion. Our findings confirm the relevance of the introduction of a stage of psychological rehabilitation of children with CHD in the overall treatment and rehabilitation process.
