Abstract
This review presents historical and modern aspects of the origin, application and evolution of aorto-pulmonary
anastomoses, which are still used today as palliative operations for the correction of patients with
cyanotic congenital heart disease, including tetralogy of Fallot (TF), accounting for up to 75% of all cyanotic
heart diseases. To date, the optimal method of treating patients with TF is a radical correction of the
defect, aimed at restoring the anatomical integrity of the heart and blood vessels. However, the extremely
high risk of performing it at an early age often dictates the need for palliative operations, which are not infrequently
performed as urgent emergency interventions. The review provides a detailed account of the history and origin of interstitial anastomoses. To reflect the current state of the issue, the results of endovascular
studies on the development of interstitial anastomoses performed under experimental conditions are presented.
The absence until now of the method of endovascular formation of extraorganic interstitial anastomoses,
which ensures the tightness of the joint and the safety of the procedure, restrains the opening of a new
field of endovascular surgery in the treatment of congenital and acquired diseases. Obviously, carrying out
research to develop a new technology for creating interstitial anastomoses, and in particular, aorto-pulmonary
anastomosis, is necessary and extremely urgent.
