Abstract
The review of the literature based on the analysis of the largest Russian and foreign studies conducted a comparative
evaluation of the immediate and long-term results of modern methods of surgical correction of isolated
atherosclerotic stenosis of the internal carotid artery – classical and eversion carotid endarterectomy,
prosthetics and stenting of the internal carotid artery. The history of development of each of the techniques
is described. Indications and contraindications for each type of surgical intervention are described. Positive
and negative aspects are presented for all the techniques considered in the review.
An unequivocal answer to the question – which of the methods is most preferable, for today is not present.
In this regard, the most appropriate individual approach for each patient with an isolated atherosclerotic
lesion of the internal carotid artery.
