Abstract
The number of implants of various devices for continuous pacemaking in recent years is constantly growing, as a result of an increase in population, increased life expectancy, adoption of new recommendations and improved access to health care. However, the number of procedures associated with the removal of endocardial electrode systems, which are part of the overall strategy in the treatment of infectious complications and failure of implanted devices, is correspondingly increasing. Clinical studies are important in understanding the efficacy and risks of removing endocardial electrodes, which has important implications for making decisions about the method of removing electrodes, as well as strategies for the therapeutic treatment of patients. Today, implantation of devices is an effective and safe procedure. However, the question of treating infections that cause a significant increase in morbidity, mortality and creating health costs remains open. There are no international guidelines for the treatment of this group of patients, therefore, practicing surgeons use various methods to remove the endocardial electrode system, based on their experience, knowledge and preparedness.
