Abstract
The stages of the progressive solution to the problem of giving thromboresistant and other necessary properties are given: minimal surgical porosity, antimicrobial properties, optimal strength characteristics of materials and implantable products developed and currently used in cardiovascular surgery. An assessment of previous work is given. The role of materials, product design, hemodynamic parameters of blood flow in prostheses of blood vessels and artificial heart valves is indicated. Since the reason for the formation of blood clots on the surface of foreign materials has not yet been clarified in detail, a truly thromboresistant material has not yet been created. However, there are attempts to take into account an increasing number of different factors affecting thrombosis. Tissue engineering, cell technology and other biotechnology techniques can provide new options for scientific research. Various methods for evaluating the effectiveness of materials modification methods are considered. It is shown that to create the most promising materials it is advisable to conduct complex biomedical tests in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo. The experimentally confirmed positive results of in vivo modified prostheses of blood vessels, cuffs for artificial heart valves and other products for clinical use are presented. In the Bakoulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery organized a small-scale production of blood vessel prostheses, cardiac surgical patches with a coating of «BASEX», «BASEX-SP», «BASEX-Patch».
