Abstract
Treatment of aortic aneurysms, especially proximal ones, is one of the most difficult problem of cardiac surgery at present. Undoubtedly, surgical treatment with cardiopulmonary bypass is the only effective method that allows either a complete cure or significantly increase the life expectancy of patients with aneurysm or aortic dissection. Most patients are in the middle and older age category and have one or more of comorbidities. Comorbidity in any surgical intervention make a significant contribution to the results of treatment, and even more so in cardiac surgery. The study presents the main pathologies that are most common in the practice of aortic surgery. Importance is given to the initial severity of the patients condition, malperfusion syndrome, connective tissue dysplasia, hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A number of risk assessment scales currently used are described.
