Abstract
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a result of disembryogenesis, characterized by various structural abnormalities of heart and great vessels. Due to the development of cardiovascular surgery and cardiac rehabilitation, many children
born with heart defects can lead fulfilling lives. In recent decades, more and more data have been published on the effectiveness of physical rehabilitation in prevention of postoperative complications and safety of individualized regular physical activity for child's organism. The presented manuscript describes in detail the history of physical rehabilitation in our country and the world, physiological characteristics of different CHD, diagnostics of physical performance and selection of permissible physical loads for different defects. Understanding of the changes occurring in the body of children born with heart defects after surgery and possibilities of increasing their physical activity is necessary for cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, pediatricians, as well as for specialists in rehabilitation, sports medicine and adapted physical education.
