Abstract
It is a description of a complicated carotid endarterectomy in a patient with symptomatic carotid atherosclerosis. An extended layered atherosclerotic plaque, which was discovered during the operation, became an indication for carotid artery prosthetics. Prepared autovenous conduits occluded soon after the anastomoses were applied, and there were symptoms of acute сerebrovascular accident emerged. Since the complication is very rare, it was decided to perform internal carotid artery prosthesis stenting, that is not included in arterial prosthetics protocols. Nevertheless, this method of dealing with the acute occlusion of the prosthesis has demonstrated good results. The protection system that was used during stenting prevented a penetration of emboli into the distal bed and the clinical picture of cerebral ischemia regressed.
