Abstract
During the life normal diameter of the aorta increases at a rate of 0.12–0.29 mm/year, normal rate of aortic
expansion is about 0.9 mm in men and 0.7 mm in women for every 10 years of life. The process of increasing
the diameter of the aorta is considered a consequence of the aging of the body, and is associated with
a higher increase in the ratio of collagen to elastin, a decrease in the elasticity of the vessels.
Prevention of the development of complications from the ascending aorta after aortic valve replacement
(AVR) is one of the unresolved issues of cardiac surgery. The predictors that indicate the possible development
of aneurysm or aortic dissection after AVR include: the bicuspid aortic valve, the presence of an
enlarged aorta, arterial hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis and dysplasia.
